SEO super newbie here. My PR is 0, and currently no SERP. Site been up for around a month. I've been reading up on SEOs, and one of the things suggested is not to get a reciprical link from a link farm. so what exactly is a link farm. For example, I have a website where I have a directory section solely for link exchange. Is this considered a link farm? Please see example: med-eze.com/directory/

    Any help would be appreciated.
    thanks,

Did a google search for "what is a link farm" for you to get a better definition than just what I would have said on my own... here it is:

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...GAPB:en&oi=defmore&defl=en&q=define:Link+Farm

I was asking that very same question for a while, but I don't think so.

From what I understand, and please correct me if I'm wrong...

    Link Farms:
    - consist of nothing but just non-related links, with no descriptions of the links, etc.
    - All members of a link farm cross link to each other, increasing link popularity.
    - Consist of many many links on the same page.

    Directories:
    - Their links are nicely categorized.
    - Only related links can be found on the same page,
    - Easily searchable,
    - so I don't think they're a link farm.

I know the value of links but I don't see how linkage (specifically) to link farms is supposed to help you! I usually deny such link requests when I get them.

    Can someone please advise.

    Thanks!

Yes, you should steer clear of link farms, they hurt your search engine rankings. Directories are helpful.

I have been told that creating link or resource pages on a site is good as long as the links are to sites related to mine. Am I understanding correctly that this could also be taken as a negative - A Link Farm?

Sorry, I am really new to all of this SEO stuff and just want out of the Google sandbox...
