So if a site that you had no knowledge of one way or the other requested a link from you, would you link to it even if it had a grey bar - given that it was relevant to your site? I don't, because I don't know what they did wrong and I don't owe them anything.
it take what 4 months now for pr to update, even then if the site has very few links it can still be pr0
As I said before, I have a site wide link to a grey barred sited and there has been no negative outcome. I would never link to anyone because I felt I "owed" them anything . If it's relevant to my site and I want to link to it, I will.
No arguments from me, VS, I was just interested in your response. On the other hand I think Andy needs a spank.
lol I was just reading your "I am bored" thread and saw you wanted an argument. The only people you'll get replying to that thread is iamned and the other annoying fella. lol This might sound tight but I very rarely link to other sites if I have to. A link away from your site is a possible exit for visitors.
I was just kidding about the arguing part...I'm more of a debater, since I try to base all of my opinions on facts.
In Hong Kong that used to be a good omen. You'd come into work and some poor thing was floating at the top of the tank and all the Chinese guys would be like, Happy Days Are Here Again, da da da da... except in Cantonese. Ahem... back to link farms.
Alot of interesting stuff... Anyways, the reason I posted the original question is because of this site I've just created: http://www.freewebs.com/skinning-knife I have created this site as a "doorway site" *GASP* to funnel visitors & links to my main site. I plan to create many mini sites on different subjects related to my site. (I do plan to put them on many different free webhosts) I don't think the SE's will mind, as it is entirely unique content (I guess perhaps that means it's not a doorway page) As you can see, I've joined an automated link exchange program, as I do not have the time to exchange links manually for the site... What do yawl think of this? Opinions would be appreciated: Would you consider this black/grey/white hat? Any suggestions?
Do you have any examples of some link farms. I dont think I've ever seen a link farm before believe it or not lol.
"Link Farming - The process of exchanging reciprocal links with Web sites in order to increase search engine optimization. The idea behind link farming is to increase the number of sites that link to yours because search engines such as Google rank sites according to, among other things, the quality and quantity of sites that link to yours. In theory, the more sites that link to yours, the higher your ranking in the search engine results will be because the more links indicate a higher level of popularity among users of the Internet. However, search engines such as Google consider link farming as a form of spam and have been implementing procedures to banish sites that participate in link farming, so the term link farming has garnered negative connotations across the Internet." FFA (free for all) link pages are probably what is being talked about. I would consider recipricol link pages/directories that auto post live links with out human reviewal FFA pages or a "link farm". But that is just my opinion .
The term "link farm" originated with unix. All files in a directory are said to be "linked" to the directory name. Any directory with many, many files was said to be a "link farm". It was just geek talk. So, the term has been borrowed from the uinix geeks. Anyway, most web link farms have disappeared over the last few years. Probably due more to bad mouthing, than penalization from SEs. (The owners probably just gave up maintaining them). I have an example, but first let me tell you the one characteristic or trait that distinguishes a link from from any other link strategy. A link farm requires that you download and host on your site, their set of pages. Every member must manually, (via FTP), download the set of pages every month or be excluded. This monthly download is how new members are added. Recently, at least one new link farm has surfaced with some twists in it's service so it doesn't sound like a link farm, but now you know what to look for. Example: link4free.us Bompa
