Please don't flame me, this is a legitimate question I have (besides, I am jealous of those making money with adsense.) I receive many (too many) link exchange requests from sites that are made for adsense. I feel that the quality of these sites are lower than that of a store. Do you think I am missing it by not do the exchange or is it best to stay away from linking out to these types of sites? Thanks in advance for your welcomed input!
Hi Debunked, Why are you not applying the usual common sense to these sites? Are they relevant to your site, do they have a cache, are they reasonably well put together so that if they do not have a PR now, chances are they will get some in the future? Perhaps you are getting to wrapped up in the PR thing and not enough in what serves your own visitors?
As a general rule i ignore adsense websites for the sole reason that i think 95% of them offer no benefit to users. Adsense webmasters throw anything together with regurgitated content, unappealing design, limited planning and marginal backlinks. I do not think ALL adsense sites are a waste of time, i have several myself. However there is a huge difference between DigitalPoint showing adsense and Jody webmaster trying to make a quick buck. I link to DP, i do not link to Jody.
Hi, All these link exchange emails are send by a script that they run on their site. They always begin with "I visited your site" and the email is never from the domain but the one you used for registration. Mike
Any time you spend dealing with sites like that is wasted time IMO. They will be the first sites to go offline, get kicked from Adsense (then go offline) or just fade away into nothing when they realize they can't make any money. No one with a legit site will link to them, at least not intentionally. They are crap, treat them as such
e10 - the answers I got from the others here are what my concerns are. Is it just a waste of time to research each and everyone of them to see if they will be worth a link? Do I just close my eyes and link for the links sake even if it may be temporary? Usually they are slightly related which is fine, but don't have any original content, to me they are just junk sites waiting for a ban, etc... Thanks for the input, but for now I think I will ignore the auto requests from these sites unless someone can give a little proof of benefit.
For the most part, yes, they are crap. I ignore generated link request. I dont even waste time looking at the site.
Keeps bots from getting your E-mail: Contact Me: <SCRIPT TYPE="text/javascript"> emailE=('jake@' + 'mysite.com') document.write( '<A href="mailto:' + emailE + '">' + emailE + '</a>' Code (markup): Automated Link Exchange directory: php link directory I've seen some pretty bad adsense sites. I was peaking at the sites for sale on godaddy when I noticed a bail bonds site that supposedly had a directory of over 50,000 cities where you can find a bail bonds man. I tried to retrieve a listing for Saint Louis, MO and when I got to the page all it had was an adsense ad where the listing should have been. I clicked for another city and the same adsense listing popped up. I looked for a bail bondsmen in new york and finally got one but they listed the same two bailbonds men for the whole state(over 50 different counties). To top it all off they are in the dmoz directory and they have a PR of 4. Its an adsense site but doesn't mean it is a bad domain and probably won't hurt your link developement campaign. If they have a PR of 5 and they can help your site rank a little higher in the serps then I would strongly consider it. If they have the same PR as you or if you aren't starved for links then I wouldn't bother. Ofcourse if you already have enough customers then I wouldn't do it because now you are messing up the value that you are providing to your visitors by advertising for a poorly done site. If you do decide to trade links I would check to make sure they aren't using the nofollow metatag or rel="nofollow" in the links if you don't trust them. I did a linkexchange with a pretty respectable site that ended up having a nofollow tag in the header. The guy didn't know what he was doing but he ended up costing me a high quality link.
For me, a link exchange has to make sense. Meaning, my link out to any other page on the web has to benefit my visitors in some way. I wont link out to junk. Yes this means it takes me longer to gain the inbound links that I need. But the ones I do gain are high quality... and so far I've had no trouble getting my pages to rank within reasonable time.
Those have been my thoughts up to this point, then I thought that maybe I was thinking about this the wrong way... Thanks Lynn for the input.
Second guessing - I do that too. I think "maybe I should take the magic pill" LOL On some of MY "adsense sites" (I call them "throw-away sites"), I set up a free directory. This encourages link exchanges, and they can add their URL as long as they reciprocate the link. It's all automated so the script makes sure they linked to me first, and checks on it periodically to make sure it's still up. (I use LMA, which you can download free at www.OnlineMarketingToday.com ). On those type sites, I also put Adsense on the directory itself, too. The directory isnt a major part of the site, just a link in the nav... and it attracts plenty of niche site owners that just need a link. Any link. Gotta have a link. And I get one too. Know what I mean?
