One of th easy way is- Type your keywords in google seach box and then get the top ten sites for that keywords (that are your competitors) and check their backlinks and try to get links from these site (where your competitor sites have their backlink)

Try to visit directory then go to your niche. I'm sure there are lot of sites that are related to your that you trade link.
Hello Shruti, As w3master said one way link is the best, I 100% agree with him, Still you want to place few resources on your website related to health, than you can add but looking on PR of the link on which you are getting back link, do not look on pr of link partner home page. Well, never give link to your direct competitor on your website. Best of luck...

If you want to get better reply for link doing link exchangin with your website, just wait and get enough post than you should post a thread in link exchange section you will get better response on this, still as members earlier said, one way is the best way to build links.
just comment on dofollow blogs related to your nich.. thats the best way to start.. this is also the best way to get the word out that you're also an authority for that niche.. converse, interact with them..
The category is also available in some forums for the link exchange. Post your thread in the forum. You will find some websites for link exchange through the reply of others. Also visit the websites interested in link exchange. Go to its the link pages and visit the websites they linked in the link page.
Link exchnage is good especially if it is related in your site but it's better if you can get more one-way link.
