Well for SEO we are exchanging links but truly this is not a ethical way. Google was supposed to count complimentary back links for giving high rank. Complimentary links means that one web site showing your web link to refer that you are good service or product provider on that domain, there were no exchange of back links between websites but when seo becomes a business then seo guys find the way to promote their websites through exchanging links.
