    hi
i usually build links by link exchanging with other related sites
recently though ive noticed alot less response from webmasters

i usually find related sites through google searches and email their site owner

i must have emailed over 100 sites this week and only had about 6 reply's
has anyone else noticed this recent trend?

The news that google and the other search engines do not like this type of linking has been spreading around, so more webmasters will avoid it.

You can try three way linking but it requires you to keep much better track of your exchanges and you also need to have multiple sites.

The trend away from reciprocal linking isn't really recent and it is very real. I still get 8-10 requests per week although I used to get 30plus requests a year ago. I have had a number of webmasters tell me that link exchanges are DEAD, don't bother, waste of time. Seems like interest is dwindling all the time.

I spend quite some time finding related blogs and email them or post a comment on their site asking if they're interested in a blogroll link exchange. I don't bother putting up a link for them first and then emailing them. If they're interested, they'll respond in a timely manner. I also mention that it would be mutually beneficial for the both of us. The best ratio I've had was 25 emails and got 5 links accepted.
