If I exchange links with a site and their links page where I will be listed has pr0, does it have any benefits to me? It will still show up as a backlink, right? Here is an example. Their homepage and main links page has a pr4, but the second and third tier resource pages are pr0. http: //www.the-classified-connection.com/ I only exchange links with sites with similar content if that makes any difference. What are your thoughts?
I would not worry about pr, although make sure the site you are getting the link from is "legit" pr will come later for your link partners. gl
I also wouldnt worry about PR. But when a page has no PR on it that I am looking at getting a link on these are a MUST to verify. 1. Can the links page be navigated to from the homepage? 2. How many pages in is it? 3. Does it have no PR due to the site using <nofollow> If all those check out then I would place a link on it and it would help.
The first two items you mention are things I look for also. However, I am not sure how to check for the <no follow> tag. Do I have to view the source code? Could you show me how to check for that? thanks.
Yes you have to view the source code and look for your link. You will see a tag <no follow> next to your link if it is. Also I think there is an option for the google toolbar that will highlight any links on the page that are nofollow.
thanks for the info. Just curious, why do some sites use the <no follow> tag? How does it benefit them?
It really doesnt benifit them too much so I dont know why they do it. But the "reason" is because it doesnt pass page rank through <nofollow>'s
If there are some sites that you want to send PR to (such as your own sites), and some that you do not care about, then <nofollow> should let you choose. I have several directories with links that are based on the site's content. They don't even know I am linking to them. I also have my own sites mixed in. I keep thinking I should add nofollow to the others , but it probably is not worth the time. Sometimes someone will sell or trade links then add nofollow to stick it to the other guy.
PRs for webpages keep changing all the time. What is important to look for is the relevancy of that page to your topic. If it has relevent content then i would go for it.
I've just had a good look at the options on the Google Toolbar and can't find a setting to show no follow's, does anyone know how to turn it on ? Thanks
There isn't an option to highlight nofollow w/Google's toolbar. There is an option with Firefox SearchStatus extension to do this.
I was reading a few posts in this forum about gaining links. In my case, that aspect went 10 times faster by following the trails already beaten by others in my trade. Using one of a dozen link check or link popularity sites, I entered in my competitors URLs to find out where they are listed. It was amazing how many of those sources were also willing to list our site too. Especially since we have advice topics to offer in the description. Just one site for example, was a page by a professor in Washington state. His main-gig is teaching teachers to use media in the classrooms. But his site had various categories of useful links. He added ours because it added to his content. Now I found this guy by tracing a competitors URL. He may even be a friend. I didn't ask.
