yea i would definitely be careful when doing link exchanging. Limit yourself to only a few and make sure that the links are relevant. Being relevant is the most important.

Many f the leading sites on the net have been regularly exchanging links with good and powerful sites and other portals and have seen great results in between. Reciprocal links are not bad in nature but bad neighborhoods can actually damage the effects and results.

Yeah it may effect the ranking negatively but I don't do one way link exchange .

That is why it is said that give priority to one way links from related sites to get maximum benefit of your links.

You got me scared for a moment, this only impacts your site rankings bad if the site doesn't relate to your site

    Hi,

In the first line it is clear "The quantity, quality, and relevance of links count towards your rating."

So link relevancy is matter more on link exchange

It's clearly written over there, which kind of links impact negatively. Avoid -

    * Links intended to manipulate PageRank
    * Links to web spammers or bad neighborhoods on the web
    * Excessive reciprocal links or excessive link exchanging ("Link to me and I'll link to you.")
    * Buying or selling links that pass PageRank

You won't be penalized for providing a few natural backlinks to your or your friends' sites. Some people worry about it too much. There's nothing to worry if you don't create a special links page and stuff it with hundreds of external links with no content.

Even totally irrelevant links count if it is natural. I moved a totally irrelevant site from third page to the #3 in the first page of google leveraging the power of my PR3.
