Link Exchange: Is This A Good Idea?

    Hi Everyone !!!

    Is this a good idea?

Link exchange sounds great! Why doesn’t everyone do it? Link exchange is often quick and easy to do, and offers the compelling possibility of increasing your own site’s traffic through advertising and search engine rankings.Whenever they put your link on their site, now you have to put theirs on yours. Wherever you plan to bury this link on your pages, you will still be offering traffic an easy way to leave your site. Leaving your site is exactly what you don’t want your visitors to do. Each link you provide to someone else’s site is actually helping them increase their own traffic and revenue — it doesn’t do a thing for your site when traffic leaves your own pages.

Yes, it is easy but when you are caught by Google then you would be penalized this is the problem!

It is far better to build one-way backlinks to your site, especially from respected sites within your niche.

As you say, the more links leaving your site, the more opportunities you are giving your valuable visitors to leave, which you really don´t want to do.

The problem is that if you want 100 backlinks to your site with such method - youll need to place 100 outbound links from your site - and thats bad.

The worse thing is that "reciprocal links" is an out-dated SEO-technique. It's easy to find sites with your niche, but it's something like finding a diamond to get a webmaster who will link to your site. Why would somebody send traffic to your website? That's a question to be asked. The original way to get backlinks is to do something awesome on your site that people will love and eventually they will link to you. Getting links naturally is the best way rather than begging for links from relevant niche. If you have that ability, you will win otherwise it's just waste of time asking for others to point to your site..

So in my opinion, It's a BAD BAD idea!

Due to link exchange google not penalised you. But if one has done that link exchange in unethical manner like hidden links, then your site be penalised by google. And if link exchange is with the quality and relevant sites , then it be more helpful as there is no more benefit of link exchange. Instead of that getting backlinks is more helpful and effective also.

I don't do it anymore for years now, but yes in 2005 I was still doing it, I'll never know if it was helping my sites at all. I'm guessing no, but who knows?

Yes, Link exchange is better idea to boost your website quickly. I am doing Link exchange for 2year and getting benefited. Google penalise only them. Who are doing link firming and making links from that website which has bundle of obl and not relative to you theme. Thanks

link exchanges can tend to be very spammy (especially when you are contacted by email for one) and you never know what you are getting - while you do need a mixture of link types 1 way, 2 way etc these are often turned into link farms at one or both ends

I read and believe that, of course, you should choose the reciprocal links carefully, but besides that, try not to stick all your external links in one page - this would most likely set off Google's alert. I think the best way to go about it is to have a blog section with content on your site. Then stick their a couple of links on each post, rather than a long list in one location.

Bad idea. Google has methods that can detect three-way link exchanges. In my opinion link exchanges are generally spammy and bad for your site reputation.

Link exchange was probably the most used tehnique. That's why after the recents updates Google decides to penalize it.

But the only valuable thing that has left is ONE WAY DO FOLLOW ANCHORED LINKS on high page rank sites or pages ( even better ) or edu and gov pages

    I hope it helps.
