I see alot of them now. I myself am thinking about it. Are these new Link Directories with PR's and stuff the new "It" Strategy to making money now? Selling them real cheap and stuff maybe $2 or $3...that stuff seriously adds up after a while. And nowadays everyone wants a website. Should I start making money in this type of field and what's really necessary in it? (My brother always told me to research before pursuing. )
Correct. Even if you manage to get 100 people to pay $2 on your directory - you are still only making $200. Not to mention most people won't buy a link unless the page their link will be on has PR. So you will be looking at a couple of updates for that to happen.
You can monetize directories with affiliate marketing or adsense/YPN, but for that you to have qualitity. You can also monetize selling payed links like you said, but for that you need a directory ranked very well with google, like...let's say at least PR6, but preferebly PR7
Yes, 2 PR updates to get page rank on some inside pages, you need PR4 to be attractive at all and really PR5, so you may be looking at 3 updates and you have to be prepared to spend a few bucks on advertising. Bottom line is you won't make much for the first year, it really is a long-term commitment.
You could offer really cheap links early on but I have seen several directories that are charging $25-$50 per submission. Especially for specialized services. Perhaps they are charging so much because they have the traffic or rankings etc. to justify...
Directories are good, but not so good like we think. Content is allways the key. A good site with fresh targeted content, updated daily, with some good backlinks, you'll have sucess, don't doubt about that.
