So far as I've been trying to generate backlinks the links I've been able to get have been on a 'links' or 'resources' page. Do you guys/girls here tend to get the same kind of links or do you more aggressively ask for in-line links, etc?

Always ask for more category wise link pages, links.html like more look like link farm so avoid them even they may provide yuu HIGh pr like 4/5 but that kind of link page generally has more than 500 links ! That much of outgoing links are useless for anybody.

kausik - so you think linking to the links page is useless? Sometimes, when people ask for links on specific pages - it interferes with your original content. How do you deal with this?

Generally we see sites with links.html pages have more than 200 links at one page. If so much outgoing links are there on a page then yes it's useless. And if you keep all your link pages in a seperate folder like "links" or "resources" then it's easy to handle your content pages and link pages. It's very simple actually.

I think that was great. One of the things that has really stumped me is the acquisition of backlinks. I do the free directories, and I've tried the co-op. But contacting other sites and asking for one-ways is something I worry about. Will they think I'm spamming them? But it looks like you're saying that the worst you'll get is a mean "NO." OK.

And I like your techniques for finding receptive sites. That's great. Thanks!

Whenever I contact site for link exchange I like to have a look at their links pages just to see what they look like.
If the links page has hundreds of links to all types of sites then it may not be worth it but if the page has a small number of links to targeted and relevant sites then I would go for it.
