Anyone know of a good automated link exchange software, or is it usually best to develop your own program? I am kinda stretched for time so I am hoping to find an automated one..but if making my own is simple then i would be all for that too. If you could point me to a html/php generator that could provide some code that would be great.

Well..my script will help you automate the process of getting links. It will blend into your site and look just like the rest of it. My site is young, however, and growing. You need cPanel or a host that allows remote access to a mysql database. I can offer you a really cheap webhosting deal and my hosting site. Use coupon code "lowprice" if you want $10 off on any plan. There are 2 videos on the site for you to learn about the two types of memberships. http://www.Link-Exchangers.com is all about saving you time and effort in getting links. One you get them, monitering them is as easy as one click with the backlink checker.

Well, this one can not (LinksJunk), see it's features for details.
It is professional one, and it can only improve rankings, but not hurt them.

erm how are you gonna make your competition do link exchanges?

btw its not difficult to hurt your competitors in the SERPS if you really wanna do it. Of course it would probably be just as easy to make your site better.
