You can't merely rely on signature links for link building. There are lots of other ways of getting highly effective back links. For example, social bookmarking, social networking, article marketing, blogging and so on.

It is commonly known by most of the guys into link building/SEO. :D
However, if you can get links from the niche related forums that will be great and more valuable.

But you should check also no follow or do follow forums because only high PR can do nothing if forum is using no follow for signature links.

    Thanks :)

I agree. Forum signature links may provide a very small value, if any at all, but for the most part suck. There are so many better ways to build links out there, it's just that people are too lazy to put in the hard work.

Try to get links that nobody else can get. Get links from quality websites because your content is that good. Those are the types of links that give you good rankings and quality traffic.

The best strategy will involve using multiple methods to get quality links. Just one type of links are not recommended.

One way article links are stronger than forum links, but every little bit helps

That's not true, I've gotten a lot of traffic from just forum backlinks. I wouldn't aim for high pr threads though, good way to get banned from a forum.

Maybe because he read the links that were posted in the link back in post #4, rena.

And yes, he is right. Forum links are among the WORST to get for ranking purposes.
