For all of you creating links for your sites, this technique will help you track your advances in google.

    Go to www.google.com/alerts
create an alert with your domain name as the search term
Select type as News & Web
Select How often as you prefer

Google will send you an email each time your link is picked!

I use this technique but I put alerts an all my sites for:

    "site:domain.com"
    "link:domain.com"

This way I get updates when google finds new links to my site and when google indexes new pages.

Great tip ! Thanks for sharing.

Should point out that "link:domain.com" doesn't really work in Google (they only show you a small fraction of the links they know about), so it's best to do a search on domain name.

The nearest you can get to an external backlink count on Google is to do a search for :

    yourdomain.com -site:yourdomain.com

Remember to add your competition too, so you can check what they are doing and how.
Great way to learn what they are doing right
