hallo, I am just before huge search engine campaign and wonder if you have some experience with various link construction. Which ones works the best? Do you think is there something what can Engines find as we fool them? Or they are all correct and will work good in your opinion? Note, that every link HAVE-TO-BE diplayed as logo, not text, becouse of branding 1. Classic <a href="http://www.domain.com" title="KEYWORD"><img src="" alt="KEYWORD"></a> 2. Indent text <a href="http://www.domain.com" title="keyword" style="background-image: url(logo.gif); text-indent: -1000px">KEYWORD</a> 2. Hidden <a href="http://www.domain.com" title="keyword" style="background-image: url(logo.gif)"><span style="display:none">KEYWORD</span></a> thank you
Well if you are limiting your campaign for "branding" this early you may have problems. Text is always the best for SEO. The best thing is to set up a test page with those 3 links on and see how google views them. Look at the text cache to see.
I'm with mad4 on the text link advantage. I wouldn't use the hidden keyworded text though, or any other such trickery.
I agree with you about the text. If I only can use text links I would do it. However that situation I faced just force me to present link as a logo. CSS trick is something what I belive should work better then alt text, but I am also a little worried if search engines will not treat me like I try to fool them
If you want to use keyword beside image as a link, i think it's better to place text bellow or above logo image, so engines (especially Google) can pick your logo with proper keyword. If you use hidden text, you are always on risk of treating as a fraud by SE's.
