Hey Everyone. Got an seo question - We just released a new redesign of our website built on WP. We used Google sitemap generator and submitted to Google webmaster. Something was wrong with the URL in the sitemap and we got loads of errors, and the site disappeared from Google. We resubmitted the sitemap and are currently waiting for Google to look over the site again, which from what I've been told, can take up to a week. On Monday, we have a link campaign scheduled to start. Costing us a good bit of cash. Question is, will the links still have value if our site currently isn't indexed properly? Appreciate your response!
Yes. If the links are to pages that exist, that is all that matters. Warning: Are you sure that your site disappeared due to a site map error? I've never seen a site dropped from the index for that reason. If you have already optimized your site and went to the extreme, a link building campaign could damage the site for a longer time. If you did nothing shady before, don't worry about it. Keep the campaign clean and all will come around.
Thanks so much for the response. Everything is clean and whitelist. The sitemap had something to do w/ a wrong URL resulting in a ton of 404 errors. After reading what you said, I went and checked and our site is still in Google, just hasn't updated to the new site, but the rankings for our desired keywords have dropped significantly. I had thought the 404 errors resulted in us being removed, but you're right. Thanks so much!!
