Link buying advice

I have an offer to buy a link from a domain that ranks top 10 for many of my keywords. He's asking $20/month for min of 1 year. The page is PR6 and very relevant. There are only a few outbound links and the domain is 9 years old.

Here's where I get confused. I can buy 100 blogs links for $10-20. Is it possible that this one very relevant link is worth as much as 100 not relevant links?

One follow up question is if this link is a good idea then should I put just my main keyphrase in the text or should I load it up with 2 or 3 keyphrases?

Without any doubt, the relevant PR6 link from a 9 year old site is the way to go. If it is already a top ranking site for your keywords, it is an authority site. Stick to one keyword.

There is so much offer on backlink services.

If given a condition, one site with less than 20 links with with PR 2,3,4,5. and another with 1000 links but to all sorts of non-relevant or no PR sites, which would weight better?

Would google penalised when there is a sudden surge of increase in link to a site?

Afraid some to of the site might be a link farm.

Save Money! Its only advice for links.

How to save money? while we have to pay for buying links?

    Here is the answer.

When you buy no (low) quality links for even $2/year and you feel satisfied that i have got cheap links for $200/year and have get ONE HUNDRED LINKS. You have won the game!

No, actually you have wasted $200 and you could have use this money on buying 1 quality link. This way you would have +ve effect on your site but now with no quality links you have lost money and have not gain even 1 point.

So save money ;) don't run after quantity of backlinks .. yeah! only quality of backlinks.

I agree, you are way better off buying one quality authority link that 100's of garbage links.

A pr6 link for 20 a month isnt the greatest price

I would tell him no unless he gets some traffic

20/m for a PR6 with some traffic is good, also pay attention to how many links he has per page

Plus, if Google recognizes the 100-200 blogs as being part of a spam blog network (splog), they'll actually lower your ranking. Take a look at some of the blogs first to make sure they aren't just scraping content.

Quality backlinks are what you need. Sometimes you may find a good deal, so the price itself shouldn't be a factor to determine if a link is worth the purchase.

Qunatity of low priced links are rather tempting, but in many cases you will go for a long journey for your SEO. Grabbing 5 quality links, depending on how quality it is, can be better than 50 random backlinks.
