Thanks, Robin
I think no. 1 (guest posting and blog posting) would be the most effective way but all those other techniques u have mentioned will give a site with a diversified backlink portfolio which is very effective now a days. I think this post would come handy for the newbies. Thanks
Nothing new from that list but you're spot on with some of them. I would only use press releases to get the word out about your business and do not use anchor text links, it can cause negative results. Matt Cutts (I'm nearly sick in my mouth when I mention his name) has started that press releases will be devalued for helping towards anchor text rankings. As for guest posting, that can work very very well but only if you target sites that take on the odd posts, the harder it is to get a post then that will normally show the best results. Using a site that is only posting guest posts will not hold much value as its nothing more than a cash cow or a link farm. You want quality sites. Article sites are trash, the cesspits of the internet! OK you get a half decent link from something like Ezine but then your article gets scraped and spun, that will put your link on tons of sites which can cause issues.
I think this permanent hunt after quality is more and more like a war out there. As methods, i prefer content used everywhere i get back a nice link. So guest posting and blog posting are the best atm i think.
No matter what techniques we use to get back-links, the most important part is how to evaluate the quality of a site that we want to get links from. The same technique will either end up with a gem, or trash. It's not about the techniques (there're only a few), and it's more about how to use each techniques. That requires tested procedures and experience. In general, we want links from sites. 1) they're created for users, not created to sell links 2) relevant to our sites and of quality content 3) strong and relevant backlinks 3) Good Alexa traffic rank 4) solid social counts (Facebook, Twitter, linkedin etc). The social signal is as important as backlinks in 2013. 5) Reasonable PR. Inner page PRs are important. Spammy sites usually don't have inner PRs.
