The don't add value to your search results at Google... but they might at other engines. It's rumored that Yahoo! does give some weight to nofollowed links in their algorithm. And they certainly add value to your site if they drive targeted traffic. But from an SEO perspective at Google, no... they add no value.

NoFollow do help you rank in Google.

They povide you with a natural link-building profile. Google like this.

If you had 1000 links, all dofollow, all with kwat

    vs

1000 links, mix of do and nofollow, plus a mix of keyword anchor text

Which do you think Google would prefer?

I know which one I would prefer.

You can get crawled. The new page rank sculpting issue has made no follow even more complicated. Now no follow is not used as a no link juice pass tag. it is used as a no endorsement tag so that the sit owner does not get penalized for linking to bad neighborhood

Usually Google won't give any link juice to target page if the linking page have no-follow tag in it, but who cares, just build links and its the job of Google to give them preference or not..

I never see if the link is do-follow or no-follow, I just put a good comment which is relevant to discussion. And the link really helps me...

Google dont pass link juice to no follow links. Only traffic can pass through these links, nothing else.

Google does NOT pass PR to nofollow links... They never have. Perhaps you should check out Matt Cutts explanation of how nofollow used to effect PR flow and now effects PR flow (pay attention to the paragraph before the first Q&A shown below).

Google never has and still don't allow PR to flow out on a nofollow link. The only thing they changed what happened to the excess PR that would have gone out on the nofollowed links if they were still followed.

If a PageA has 10 followed outbound links then each link receives approximately PR(PageA)/10.

If you nofollowed 5 of the 10 links then twice as much PR flowed out on the 5 remaining followed links (i.e. PR(PageA)/5). That no longer happens. He explains it VERY clearly.

Now if PageA has 10 outbound links and 5 are nofollowed then the remaining 5 followed links only get PR(PageA)/10 passed to each of them. The other half of the PR(PageA) that would have been passed to the nofollowed outbound links if they were still followed simply gets wasted... goes into a blackhole... is thrown away.

I'm still impartial as to why people don't realize that a link is a link regardless of it's attribute. Even if a link is nofollow, Google might still pick it up. You can never be so sure what the Googlebots will do. And people, why don't you realize Google is not the only search engine out there. You fail to realize that Google never fully compensates any site for it's backlinks...compare your backlinks in Google to those in Yahoo, there will be a difference. So build your links and stop worrying so much about dofollow/nofollow tags.

Slight correction here. Google LIKES for people to sculpt their sites. They just want them to do it with smart architecture. Not by utilizing no follow tags.

Google sees and includes all links in Webmaster Tools, whether they're no follow or not.

When calculating SERPs, no follow links are COMPLETELY ignored. These is absolutely no SEO benefit from a no follow link in Google. Difficult to know for sure if Yahoo and Bing handle them the same way, but I suspect they do.

    - every link (no-follow or do-follow) is good, but for PR important are only do-follow links.

Then why do they say over and over to design for the visitor and not for the SE's?

Because if it's sculpted correctly it will also help the visitor out (theoretically).

There is quite a difference between a user friendly navigation system and a site laid out to 'sculpt' the flow of page rank.

If there are pages you don't want showing up in the SE's, then use robots.txt and robots meta tags.

We commonly use these for TOS, Privacy and other such generic pages.

The nofollow attribute was corrupt almost as soon as it was introduced - by both Google and webmasters!
