Link Building With No Follow Now Works?

Does Googles change in how they view nofollow tags mean that it is now valuable to build links even on sites with a nofollow tag?

I have been wondering the same thing. I have been looking at link building that some of my more efficient competitors have been doing, and they seem to be creating no-follow links. Interesting stuff, would be curious to see what others think.

Google does not give credit for nofollowed links. Read Matt Cutts blog now and then...

No, they don't give credit for nofollow. The change that took place was just to prevent webmasters from sculpting pagerank.

But I have seen that all these nofollow links appear in the Google Webmaster tools. What keeps me in a fix is if google does not understand it as a link. How is it that they are appearing on the External link list in google webmaster tools.

Google knows it is a link. Google never said it would ignore them, they just said they won't pass anchor text and PR.

From my experience the google don't give credit for nofollow, they give credit only for dofollow.

Yeah, but with the recent change what they're now saying is that nofollowed links will pass PR- so form that it seems like the only thing they're not passing is the 'vote' for that particular anchor text - does anyone else read it this way??? If so, then they've really shot themselves in the foot if they're trying to stop the sale of links designed to pass PR.

(MC hasn't said this, but maybe the passing PR change for nofollow links only applies to intrenal links??)

Does anyone have a link to them saying this? If not has there been some kind of experiment done to test? I too noticed that my high ranking competitors have a lot of nofollow links in common.

The change recently exposed by Matt Cutts to how nofollow affects PR flow at Google simply means that adding rel="nofollow" to one or more outbound links on a page no longer increases the amount of PR passed to the remaining followed links. It used to, but it doesn't anymore.

Matt Cutts and other Googlers have said on numerous occasions that nofollow links do NOT help you rank at Google (check out about 55-60 seconds into this video. He flat out states nofollow links will NOT help you rank, even from wikipedia. They may drive traffic that leads to getting followed links from other sites, but the nofollowed links don't count.) They may at other engines like Yahoo! as how each engine handles "nofollow" is up to them.

that's interesting that they are doing it to keep the webmaster from directing PR flow through their own site. Does this mean that we have to use javascript links as navigation now to do that? What's the best way to drive PR around your own site now?

Good navigational structure and robots.txt - same as it has always been.

The nofollow attribute was corrupted almost as soon as it was introduced.

Google kind of follows it, they claim that they don't give any weight to nofollow links but at the same time so many people have used it for link sculpting that I find it hard to believe that they don't give at least a little juice.

If that is the case, then they are lying in all their published material covering the subject.

Of course, that would not be the first corporate lie...

Do you have any evidence that Google is following and/or giving credit to nofollow'd links?

i think no. google is still following nofollow and dofollow attribute.so if you want page rank or want to get listed in google then you must have to use dofollow sites for submission.

No follow links are useless for backlinks but useful for traffic.. I think Google won't change its view on no follow links so as to minimize spam, etc..
