Hi All I am reading lots of forum posts about link building and how many outsource it to india...However, many then say this should not be done and you should do in-house... But surely for such a dull, boring task who actually would?? I cant see a top seo consultant would spend all day link building??? What do these people do for link building?? Thanks Rob
Pretty much everybody used to do it. However, since last year, your time is probably better spent creating new original content, and earning backlinks naturally. backlinking article there's a gazillion links like this. Here's one from, Eugene Ware, who is the boss of Noble Samurai, and an honest-to-goodness self-made multimillionaire from internet marketing,so you can assume he knows a little about the subject, unlike all the jokers on this forum who will try and persuade you that backlinking spam still works. Creating original content is very important I have to agree. While earning backlinks naturally is always nice, its impossible to very hard in some niches. seomoz? Wouldn't believe everything they say, half of their info is just stuff the writers have read and not actually tried first hand. Most of the content is a build up for you to get your credit card out and if backlinking is dead, why have they got a High PR network that helps to rank pages on their site?
There's no doubt a lot of truth in what you say. However, there's rather a lot of evidence now building up indicating that the easy days are over. Re seomoz, you'd have to ask them, I have no idea. I'd guess that what you're saying is that because you can find an example that Google HASN'T punished, therefore Google AREN'T punishing link spam. Hands up anyone who doesn't think Google hates link spammers, and isn't devoting millions of dollars to defeat it.
I'm not saying that google doesn't care about backlink spam at all, the penguin update sorted that out. What I'm saying is that people who write ranking is dead, backlinking doesn't work anymore are clearly people who don't know what they are doing, or who are feeding their readers a load of bull. I have seen countless threads on this forum of people asking for help with backlinking methods, for the so called experts to chime in with use article directories, forum posts and submit your site to a load of directories, which will simply do very little if you are trying to rank for anything half decent. Backlinking still works, fact.
Agree, yes it does. Google are making strenuous efforts to ensure it works as it was originally envisaged - i.e. a backlink is a 'vote' as to the quality of the recipient. This was the foundation of Google's early success, and the reason why their SERPs were so good up till about 2003. What they did last year was awesome - if anyone cares to cast their minds back to a typical Google results page this time last year and compare it to what they give you now, you can see how well they have done in weedling out spammers. There's obviously a way to go yet, but the process has started, and it's fairly obvious that it's only going one way. Just as reciprocal links no longer work, and link wheels no longer work, linkspam has had its day. So as you say, using cruddy bits of spam software to generate tons of links on known link networks, or forums, or directories, is in the main a waste of time now, but EARNED backlinks, of course, are a different matter. An earned link has great value. So yes, I agree with you wholeheartedly. Backlink spam is effectively finished as a ranking manipulator. The easiest way to earn a backlink, of course, is to put up some new, useful high quality content.
