Link building tips for web hosting site?

I'm looking for some tips/pointers on a link building strategy for a web hosting company. I've read some conflicting posts/research on the value of reciprocal link exchanges recently and also the value of having some kind of link directory on the hosting company site? So what do you all suggest? I've also checked out a few tools like like Link-Assistant and a few others that look interesting. Anyway, any tips/advice on building links for a web hosting company site?

No reciprocal link exchanges. Try A>B>C link exchanges instead. A & C are your sites, B is your partner site. Also, use deeplinks (content-based links).

Thanks. Where is it recommended to put partner links on a web hosting company site? I don't think we want some type of link directory/free-for-all type page.

I did, thanks. I figured business websites and web hosting sites in particular may benefit by different approaches to link building.

I would say you should offer some free service, in your case offer free web hosting to users and users will have to link to your site in return.

No, don't put up a "partners" section. It MIGHT be treated like a link exchange. Instead, put up an ARTICLES section :) You link doing an A > B > C exchange through deep links on CONTENT (articles) on your site.

I want to be sure I'm understanding you. Create an articles section, so I'll have :

    hostingcompany/articles

    and maybe

    hostingcompany/articles/dedicatedservers.html
    hostingcompany/articles/domainregistrationinfo.html

etc. Then I would link to a link partner's site within the content of one of these articles and have THEM link back to one of these articles (deep link) from another one of their sites that is hosting related and hopefully with a decent PR? (sorry I'm new to this link building stuff)
