Thanks for the post. Very useful and I heave read this a couple of times. What's the final verdict on reciprocal links? I keep hearing things “do it” and “never do it”. I used to have websites from 2004 – 2006 and then I brought them until last month when I started creating new sites.

Earlier relevant reciprocal links helped me but now I keep hearing all sorts of things about reciprocal links – recently, I read a couple of reports where it says reciprocal links can hurt the search engine ranking.

Reciprocal links takes time so I want to make sure my efforts are of some value to me. I have been holding off on “relevant” reciprocal link campaign because I am not sure if this is the right thing to do. Here’s what I was planning to do:

I have links directory. I will get relevant links exchanges. My links will have the targeted keywords in the anchor text. I’ll make sure that my link on a page that has around 10 – 15 links (not more than that). Will this be useful in getting traffic and increasing the google pagerank? So, What is the final verdict on reciprocal linking?

Some forums are really great for link building. I am photographer and like gadgets. So forum like dpreview.com (PR7), photo.net, flickr(PR8) are great, but be careful in these forums. It is OK to post and use your blog as a signature but sometimes people don't like just click on your website. Read first and get a feeling of the forum before posting is the key! Webware, techcrunch are great to post and get links back.

 

In addition to Mr. kumar's lovely list here is a new way: Zerious.
Think of it as piramid style link building campaign. However clean sites only, otherwise you will be moderated out. No sex, Phishing, hate, or anything that would set people off, like stupid pop ups or pop unders.

Most of the directories have been drastically devalued by the search engines. What was once a 7 is now lucky to be a 3. I guess it is due to abuse.
