Link Building Tips and Resources

Thank goodness for this site. We've had our website for a few years and have no links coming in. I was at a loss on what to do and then I found this site. NICE! I am a newb at everything on this site, so alot of ready to do. So far I have been reading for 3 hours. Thanks to everyone who listed information here.

its easy if you your friend is a webmaster for the .edu site.. all you have to do is ask them to..

 

Another interesting thing to note:

Using a company like Directory Maximizer has worked for my clients. In fact I was able to do an interesting test on www.happybeancoffee.com with only Directory Listings.

To clarify I actually do a plethora of things for most of my clients but this guy wanted something cheap and quick.

Here is the main problem with his site that he wasn't willing to fix.

1. Pages had no title tags
2. Not enough content on the website.

After using just Directory Maximizer Within 7 days his site ranked for his company name. Within 30 days he was #1 for his company name. The 4 other phrases that were used in the directory submission listings (with current Google rankings) were:

happy bean #2
happy beans #2
coffee sauces #6
coffee jelly #9

These didn't get ranked in Google well until 6 months later.

In Yahoo this website is ranked #1 for all of these, & this is a website without a title tag at all. Very interesting experiment.

On the downside you get flooded with e-mail from all 650+ directories for confirmations of your submissions, definately a pain, but saves time actually submitting the listings manually.

Are there any electronic or PCB companies (or anyone related to this topic) that would like to exchange links?

 

When requesting a link from another site, I have found you get a far better result if you can address a person running a site by name, instead of the standard 'Hi' or 'dear webmaster' approach.

If you cant find a name at least put their url and web title in the email, this shows you have not simply copy/pasted a standard link request to hundreds of people.

Also keep the email short, people cant be bothered to read lengthy emails.

When requesting a link also be sure to offer a page similar to the one you are asking to be on. I don't do link directories off my site so I get people asking for a link on my site and all they offer me is a link on a page with 50 other links. It's is always on a page that would never get any rank anyways.
