    Steve,

I have never seen a directory (except the mayor ones like Google Directory or Yahoo Directory) with a PR9. I mean, among most of the directories that will accept your URL for money (as long as your website meets certain requirements), the highest PR I remember is 6, maybe 7.

I think that rather seeing the PR of the main home page's directory, I'd rather check out the PR of the section of the page where my website will be most likely to be listed.

For instance, if the website I need to suggest is about a company that markets its own software program that can be used by health care organizations. I go to that directory and find the most appropriate category (eg. "Health & Fitness Software"), and then I try to figure out if my new list will be the first or the last one in the list of websites in that particular category.

This is important because if the first web page of a category is PR4, but you are most likely be going to be pushed all the way back to the fifth page (with a PR0, typically), then you don't want to pay much for that link.

This is why I liked the Directory Dump so much, because I found MANY categories for my website in particular, some with PR4s, and in most situations, I was going to be the only outgoing or external link, so I submitted my URL.

The number of outgoing links in a webpage is also important --very important indeed (although most people only look at the PR number). If everything else being equal, you'd rather have your URL listed in a webpage with 5 external links than with 10 external links (the less the better).

The website URLTrends.com even attempts to rate or quantify the importance of such a link depending in the number of outgoing or external links AND the PR of the hosting webpage. For instance, if in a webpage there are 5 outgoing links, and the page's PR is 4, each link is receiving approximately 0.680 PR (try to do this test with website perulinks.com in urltrends, for example).

What this means? Theoretically, I think this means that if your current website's is PR2, then after Google realizes that link towards your website, you then will have a PR of 2.680, which I'd imagine Google will round it up to PR3. This is only *theory*, and of course Google uses many other variables to quantify your Website's PR (for instance, how long your website has been around and if it has an extention .GOV or .EDU versus .COM).

So supposing that in the above case your PR would be increased from 2 to 3, I still DON'T THINK GOOGLE WILL RAISE YOUR PR RIGHT AWAY. They won't be so obvious. However, when I have been lucky enough to find a webpage (where my website would be posted) with a high PR and few outgoing links, I've noticed at least in two recent cases that my Google search position will advance almost as soon as Google indexes the new webpage with your URL in it.

Why I am so sure of this cause-effect relationship? Well, first, I am not. This is just an hypothesis based on observation. But one that makes a lot of sense too.

Google's cache or copy of the hosting webpage that has your link usually has the date in which Google cached the hosting website. If that webpage was cached in Day X, for example, and you notice that your website ranking has gone up in that same Day X, then you can logically be at least suspicious that submitting your website to a particular webpage directory has worked to you by getting a higher Google ranking for your website.

    Hope this helps,

    Carlos

    Hi Carlos,

Thanks for this awesome explanation. Some things i already knew, others you really clarified. However you missed my question.

The question was that "do you know of any pr 8 or higher sites which accept donations in return for a link?"

    Thanks again, Steve.

I object with your intention getting a link from pr 9 by using donation. If you can get a link by paying 1$ . Every one pays to get into the site. And your link will not last for more than 1 hour. And google doesnt consider as a vote for you , if the link age is less than 3 months. The only advantage is that you can get some traffic

    Steve,

I thought I had answered that question in the very first paragraph when I wrote "I have never seen a directory (except the mayor ones like Google Directory or Yahoo Directory) with a PR9."

However, now I realize that maybe I was too ambiguous or even incorrect with that simple statement. I should have clarified then, but now I will.

The answer to question "...do you know of any pr 8 or higher sites which accept donations in return for a link?" is Yes. There is ONLY one directory PR 8 -- that I personally know -- that accepts payments for commercial websites ($299 and $600/year): Yahoo Directory.

Please notice that submitting your website to Yahoo Directory is not the same as Yahoo (the search engine we all know).

I also implied that Google accepts payments to list your URL in their directory, but that was not correct. Google accepts website suggestions for FREE in its directory through DMOZ. However, this directory (DMOZ or the Open Directory) is very picky and if you submit your URL to a wrong category or with a wrong description, they will just ignore your request.

So the answer to your question was yes and that was Yahoo. Of course, this is from what I personally know.

I hope I am not redundant to mention AGAIN a great directory index that somebody already mentioned before: http://www.addurl.nu/ But I want to mention again just to make the point that from all these 960 SEO-friendly directories listed, the highest ones are only PR6.

Maybe I should also mention that this list of 900+ directories is indeed very good, that I have tried them, and that I had experienced a big traffic increase after submitting or suggesting my URL to them (well somebody else did the hard work for me).

I apologize for diverting myself too much from the original question.

    Hope that helps,

    Carlos

First, remove any spam kind of thing from your site. Remove for what google has penalized your site. Do some ethical on-page seo and build links. Making site ethical and non-spamy is the solution of problem. You can always request google after cleaning your site, to remove penalty and include site in index and serps.

I don't think there's any reason to remove the post, but it would just be cool if you credited Mr. Kumar for coming up with the format.

I'm not against borrowing a little content, but when it's on the DP forums, from a DP member, they should get some sort of credit. That's just common decency.
