Link building strategy for big sites

    Hello all,

I read about link building alot these days but i cannot figure out somethig: how do get links for big sites, like one of the sites i have, a free software downloads directory.

I tried to concentrate only on "white" techbiques. I wrote reviews, some articles ... but dealing with over 100000 pages is not easy, not to mention the fact that my content is not unique.

I have some questions for those of you more experienced than me who are willing to share some information:
    - what kind of article should i write for such a site
    - what is the best way to syndicate articles rss
    - how do you find do follow blogs in your niche
    - should i bother posting on no follow blogs/forums ? Do you usually do that
    - would a social bookmarling campaign work for such a site

    Thank you all for helping.

For a big site, you definitely have to go after bigger link building strategies. Obviously you're going to hit harder to rank for keywords, so you need links on a larger scale. That means you gotta build up as many as you can for the least amount of work. Guest blogging won't be efficient enough, not when there are big sites that offer spinning services where you can get 1 article distributed to hundreds of blogs. Directories are useless now and blog comments aren't efficient. Better get behind a company that can help out.

For big sites, Usually Viral content is reason why they get lots of natural content. Quality = More links. That's what mattcutts asks every one but for small webmasters it's not practically possible.

Free software downloads directory? Giveaway! Its free right? Then ask them to sponsor blog entries. Ask them to write for your good, that will be effective if done well :)

    Try the following methods,

    1. Article Writing (Ezine is great)
    2. Submit your site to different link directories.
    3. Create multiple blogs on wordpress.com and blogger.com and backlink your website.
    4. Put your website on Forum Signatures.

Whats the URL? It cannot possibly be softarea51 at PR5

You obviously must be working on something new!

Funny question for someone who has an already very popular website. (43724 Alexa rank)

Write good articles, and submit to hundreds of article sites. That will bring many backlinks to your site.

Submit your information in high PR directories, and unique articles need to submitted in popular articles sites. Maintain some good blogs regularly with good content with links and make forum signature every day in order to bring the site in top listing on long term basis. but it is a long term process.

Big sites are your friends. You should bookmark all the pages which will help indexing and let the SE's know what pages should rank for (be sure to have OnPage setup). Directory submissions like Basanta mentioned are good as you will most likely get accepted if the site is big / authority already.

I think one of the problems is to choose the keywords i want good rankings. Based on that articles will be written.

Since I did not manage to find a good way to build links for a big site (the one in my signature) I will try to refresh this thread.

Going with links for individual products really seems a bad idea in my case. Posting on blogs ... not bad but would require a huge amount of work to cover at least the categories. I filtered the content more and tried to eliminate as much junk as I could, I wrote reviews (original and true content) for different products and got some good links back, but it seems I am still far away of pushing the site forward. I'm stuck :(

I am sure some of you already faced this issue before and probably had a solution. Maybe you can share your thoughts and experience.

Hire more people and distribute the task, that way each one of you could focus on each task assigned.
