I recently changed the redirect code for my site that's in a subfolder to a 301 redirect. I've mainly done link building for the subfolder in the past. Is it better seo wise to link build for the top domain or its subfolder? Thanks
If your site is located at exaple.com then you build links for example.com. If your site is located at exaple.com/mysite/ then you link that site... redirects do not make a difference here what to link... Cheers,
I thought that pagerank can be inherited through a 301 redirect. The top domain has a PR0, some time after I changed the redirect the pagerank of the subfolder dropped from 2 to 0.
a 301 redirect does pass pagerank....but if a page rank update has not been done since the 301 redirect...you will still have the 0. Also deep linking is a good practice. heres is a GREAT post on the subject http://www.stonetemple.com/blog/?p=491
well yes i think that it would be a good idea to build links for subfolders rather going for main domain.
if i understand correctly you made the redirect from your subfolder towards your main domain? if thats the case then i would go for building links to your main domain, since your redirect has to pass it again. if it doesnt then your link building is for nothing.
