    Hi People

Well I just wanted some opinions on this, to see what you guys and gals think of it.

Well a have nearly finished a new website, and I am ready to start building links, the website is animal related, however due to its uniqueness, there are not really any websites regarding a similar thing, so I was thinking.

    1. Would submitting to paid directories etc really help boost my SERP postion?
    2. What would you do?

    Cheers
    Ash

    1. No

    2. If its animal related then I would consider any sites related to pets or animals in any way to be relevant sites to exchange links with. Concentrate on adding quality content to your site, exchange links, post on related forums with link in sig, try social bookmarking/ press release and even article submission.

The thing to remember about building links is that your niche area for finding links is so much bigger than your niche topic (the specific topic of your website).

I agree with Vigor on both counts, but also what I'd do is go to thesaurus.com and type in 'animals' (as well as all your other keywords) and jot down all the resulting suggestions. Then re-enter all those suggestions to get a second tier of related words. Compile a master list of all the suggestions. Then go to your favourite search engine and use all those words on your master list in conjunction with phrases like 'add url', 'submit a site', 'more information' etc., and I'm sure you'll find more than enough sites that you can approach for links.

    Good luck,

    Phlegm...

I suggest to not only concentrate on building links from sites related to animals. Try to get a large variety of links going to your site.

It is maybe better if they are related but other links still help you.

actually due to its uniqueness, the link development for it would be easier for you - btw, there are several related sites though - you have to just look a bit harder ;)

Start with big strong directories, expand this with niche directories and then make a quality link profile with links from related sites -from text is the best.

Honestly I don't find directory submission too efficient for my time. Sure, the directory could be a PR 6, but the page on which your site will be put on will have a ton of other links too, so you won't get too much out of it. If you submit to several hundred directories, than maybe.

But I focus most of my time on article marketing in my niche...I'm also starting to get into squidoo.

Oh yeah, forum posting with a link to your site in your sig accounts for a lot of my links.
