I am considering a link-building contest (a'la John Chow): You know, make a short post on your blog or website with a link and anchor-text that I specify back to my site and/or blog and you get entered to win some fancy prize.. I'm thinking of a first prize of something like a new iMac or an iPhone with 1-year pre-paid service (if they can do that).. 2nd prize of $100 or something like that.. So, i have two questions: 1) have you ever tried a contest like this, and was it successful? 2) would you consider entering a contest like this?
No, thanks, I would not enter. Waste of time and linkspace for me. BTW what are you going to make the criteria? Visitors? PR? You'll probably get tonns of irrelevant links. or none at all maybe.
hadn't thought any criteria much yet .. maybe i'll give PR4 links two entries and PR5 and above 3 entries, or something like that.
This means there is no point entering the contest with a page PR <=4? or maybe <=5? 6? This system won't work IMHO. People with decent PR just won't go for your prize. And lower PR will think they're going to loose anyways. And if you have 3 PR4 links you will give 2 entries to each one. Who's gonna win? Well, if this will be like a lottery(int rand(sum_of_entries)), this might work. And if you use traffic sent from the pages as the criteria you will get tonns of fake traffic No point here... Imagine you have only 3 PR4 and 1 PR5 links. Not much to gain, but the prize is gone, unless some of your pages win
