Link Building Collaboration Ideas

I have recently created a forum called Promotion Trader (www.promotiontrader.com) where people can propose creative link-building trades for their web sites.

For instance, instead of just trading links from site A to site B, or even three-way, triangular links, why not propose trades like:

I have a Costa Rica travel website with a blog about traveling in Costa Rica. I am looking for other travel websites (without a focus on Costa Rica) that would be interested in having a “guest blogger” post once per week. My posts would always be informative and provide a multitude of travel tips pertaining to Central and South America. I only ask in return for a sort, 50-word bio at the end of my weekly post, which would include a link to my own blog.

Let’s trade health content! I have hundreds of articles that I wrote about health and fitness during college. Many of them are now up on my personal training website, but I have many others that have never been published online. Rather than sending them to article directories where the links count for barely anything, I want to give them to a reputable health and fitness-related web site. I will sign over rights to the content in exchange for retaining the permanent links from within the body of the articles, which can open in blank windows.
    - - - - -
I Will Give Permanent Link in Exchange for PHP Help. I am new to phpBB, but have installed the script on my domain. I need some help customizing it. In exchange I will give you a link from my home page.
    - - - - -
I will provide free SEO report in exchange for one link from your links page. This will include an intelligence report on your top three competitors, keyword suggestions, and specific ways in which you can improve the SEO of your particular website.
    - - - - -

It is entirely up to you. Get creative! The point is, whether you are trading links for content, content for links, services for links, or whatever you might have to offer… you can get away from the typical link-trade by utilizing the Promotion Trader forums.:D

Yes, but how much a link from a company that isn't able to pay a web-programmer is worth?!

I like your initial idea, i think it'd work well, it's just whether people would continue with their part of the deal.

It is not a matter of being "unable" to pay for a programmer. I could if I wanted to but that would defeat the whole bloody purpose of the site wouldn't it? If you want more than what is offered, simply say "Here is my counter offer because I don't think the deal is fair".

This is about collaboration. It is about those involved in making the Internet go 'round cooperating with each other and helping each other out. If you don't want to participate, then simply don't participate. Do you see any ads blinking up in your face on that site? Do you see any subscription charges? Am I installing spyware on your computer? No!

As for links, they come in all price ranges - as do programmers.

Now CPR has a great point. One of the things I would like to customize is a points system. Each time someone is satisfied that you have completed your end of the bargain, they can donate points to you. Those with more points are going to be more trustworthy. Not only that, but the forums are there if you want to tell the entire community that you got burned. Eventually, like on any forum, you get to know who you can trust and who you can't. You develop relationships with certain people.

Eric, you are right. All you have to do is ask. And this is a place where that is encouraged. There is a special section on the forum for people who don't want to trade and just want to sell.

So I'm offering a free venue for you to propose link trades, content trades, sell your services... I paid for the domain, the hosting, spent many hours setting it up and am asking nothing in return. Yet some people still have nothing but "ba humbug" to say. Jeeze...

I'm hip dude - I just bookmarked the site, & digg'd & del.icio.us-ed it. I think this could become a very useful resource - surprised no one has already done it.

I'll be back to join up after I've had more coffee...

No problem. You can use my travel website (see signature). It has a WYSIWYG editor, so you can feel free to format your article however you like and include your information at the end of it.
However I do ask for original content and at least 1000 words to be featured on the front page.

I think it's a good idea, but whether it becomes successful depends on how many people you get to actively use it. Good luck.
