Hi Quick question for you guys. Can anybody give me the pros and cons of aiming my link building solely at the homepage rather than a deep specific page? Thanks
The cons: inbound links to the homepage only is UNNATURAL, it indicates that the other pages of your site are not worth linking to and therefore are not quality content. The Pros: It is absolutely natural and normal to have inbound links to internal pages and Google EXPECTS it! Also be sure to use varied anchor texts as this is also Natural & Normal and Google expects it as well. I like to build 75% of inbound links to the home page and then spread the remaining 25% amongst my internal pages
From my research you back link to your homepage and promote your deep links. I back link my internal links when I get the opportunity so don't pass that up! Make your homepage your focus. Pro's and con's? Hopefully your homepage hit's #1 and not a page that might not be that useful to first time readers. I've had pages that were PR5 and my homepage was PR3. That I suppose is a pro too because you can capitalize on one very useful page.
