Internet Marketing can seem quite daunting. On day one of your IM campaign the top spot in Google seems a million miles away and something you can only dream of achieving. The rules of today’s game are quite simple. Organic SEO is great but inbound links are better. You know you need inbound links and the more competitive the keyword is, the more you need. I will never encourage the use of paid link campaigns or link farms, but I do recognise that in today’s internet you need great links from great sources. So where do you start? When you have decided on your primary keyword, "Google it" make a list of the main players in that particular market (the top 10)Visit the free SEOMoz linkscape tool (http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/) from here you can type in your main competitors URL and perform a basic inbound link analysis for their domain. From the report you will be able to identify the source of all their inbound links and start to formulate a plan on how you can begin to emulate their success. The first few times you do this I am confident that you will say to yourself "is that all they have done"I appreciate that there is a lot more to link building but I think this a great way for beginners to get into the link building mindset.
