Here are some good ideas on how to execute effective link baiting: * Make a valuable resource (lists, special reports, history of, how to, etc.) * Build a useful tool for users. * Be the first to write the latest news in your niche. * Give something valuable for free. * Make a theme, plugin or piece of software. * Write something controversial (With negative comment, and negative discussion OR try to become Disagree with an authority) Don't be as much a nagative people will band you or throw you outside. * Test something new that has not been done before. * Write useful comments on something that is happening. * Make a tool that others can put on their sites but that links to you * Write something bad about celebrities and famous personalities. * Be the first to expose a scammer. * Interview (e-mail/phone) prominent people and publish it.

Link baiting is just a fancy way of saying alluring headlines that get attention. Not very different from what newspaper headlines do.
