Link Bait or Buy A Website and 301 it?

    Hello,

I have a question for you SEO experts.

I was wondering which is the best way of spending money on to improve my website's rankings. Should I do a link bait campaign or buy few websites (relevant to my big website) and redirect them via 301.

A link bait campaign could help me get links and exposure; however, it is very risky and the links are not very well relevant as well.

Buying websites that already have some good rankings on Google and relevant links point those websites via 301 towards to my big website is a good move?

    Which solution is better?

    Please let me know.

    Thanks!

I don't see any sense to close sites with good ranking.
You can promote these sites to and earn on it.

Agree, Keep the old ranking websites and create backlinks to your websites as well as banner advertising to get the traffic/visitors as well as posting your ranking from the relevant websites.

Otherwise if you are gathering the pagerank value of those non relevant websites go with redirecting using level 301 to your main domain.

But keep on mind that non relevant websites might not post your ranking in the search engine as it's optimized for non relevant keywords.

I would buy relevant (if possible relevant general topic) sites and give links to my main site.

Well the sites that I am planning to buy are relevant to my main website. Their traffic is not THAT much and they dont earn a lot. Therefore, since they were receiving some good amount of traffic from Google and other search engines, I thought if I 301 them to my main website I would have more links and more rankings for my main site no?

    Am I correct or wrong?

The problem about link baiting is that it might succeed or flop completely, while with these websites I am sure of gaining relevant links.

    What do you guys think?

YES, you are right if the sites linking to you kept the links to the old domains witch is forwarded to your new domain and if it's relevant you will get a post in your ranking.

As an advise try to buy and forward the sites one by one by allowing a period of time before forwarding the next domain.

Why don't You just put some relevant info on those sites, and put up some links to Your main site with relevant keywords ?

Then You could make a bit money with AdSense on those sites, and also help Your main site rank better.

Because I would gain only 2-3 links like that; while, if I completely redirect the website I would gain 100-200 links.

try to get them hosted on a separate server than your main website...that way it will count as a true backlink

I would personally aim to build your own content on your own domain and garner links from that. If you have cash left you can always purchase existing domains & optimise them for adsense....

Keep your existing site(s) and work on them. Of course you can start new sites when ever you like, maybe for different niches. But I'd suggest not to sell or give away your existing websites.

Uhmn I don't think you undestood the situation.

It's either I buy websites and 301 redirect them to my main websites or just do a link bait campaign that costs as much as I buy the websites.

    What would you guys choose?

Linkbait as it is more natural. 301 redirect of domains, especially if all registered in your name, won't be any good once the algorithm catches up with you now or in a future update.

Yes, but link bait is very risky isn't it? Would you rather pay $6000 for a link bait campaign or around less than $5000 to buy four established websites with atleast 100 in bound links each and already with over 1k uniques per day for each website?
