Good catch, I put nofollows in the code. This is why I like this forum so much. :D

Hard to know, the tool generates 100% HTML with no Javascript or PHP. There are a few bloggers that wrote about it and I think there are a few using it because some people came back repeatedly.

To expand on my answer, it may take a day or two for my link to be indexed on any websites that use the social block created on my site.

So, I don't know right now how many are using the generated HTML, but I will know as time goes on.

    Is that what you mean?

Something like that. But common be crative. If I remember correctly people have to enter the url to create the link block.
Why don't you stick the urls in a database and spider them yourself looking for backlinks.
Advanatage: You can write an email to the people not using your backlinks reminding them of your Terms.

It seems to be along the same lines as what you are talking about. I've seen people using this little javascript thing all over the web and I have yet to see anyone remove the link.

You might follow this example and make sure the link has some type of value, so people will want to leave it on the site. In this case it shows people how they can do the same thing for themself.

    Edit:
Sorry I didn't realize I wasn't on the last page and you had already released the tool. It looks good by the way.

I am using that exact technique, the only problem is I have a rather large number of entries from people simply trying the tool and I don't have time to go through all of them just yet. I have a feeling that this will only get worst. I will be merging my database into a link checker in the next couple days.

    Thanks for the reply.

It is not that hard to check if someone stripped off your link or not even if you are using plain HTML.

Here is a hint: try dpolls.com's service and remove their link.

I agree. If this is aimed at bloggers, then there are a lot of plugins available to do this without an effort. Some one needs to goto your tool's page, enter the url and title, then generate code and paste it in the post.

While if someone is using a blogging s/w like WP, they just have to write the post and all this will be taken care by the plugin.

But, it doesn't take away the credit from you. I think it is a good toll and you should market it to people who do not use blogging software or other users who want to be popular. *Hint* Myspace profiles

About 10% are stripping the backlink, I've e-mailed them to ask them to put it back. We will see if they do, I don't want to ban them.
