What is link anchor text? I've recently began reading a couple of webmaster forums and I keep seeing people refer to "link anchor text". Can you tell me what it is so I won't feel like I'm in the dark?

Anchor text is that text which is generally hyper linked to other web site.

Eg. Suppose abc.com has a link of xyz.com

That link must be put by an anchor text namely forum

Then the format will be:
Forum

Link anchor text is the words that someone clicks on to follow you link, for example many people use 'click here', 'brand name' or the url. This is not beneficial for SEO value at all though, links with keywords as the anchor text enable to robots to have a clear indicator of what the content on the page they are travelling to is about. Just think of it as a ships anchor, tying you link down.

Anchor text is what will rank your website based on a certain keyword or a keyword phrase.
If you link to http://www.digitalpoint.com or use DIGITAL POINT as an anchor text - you will have 2 completely different results when it comes to the search engines.

The second one will take you onto google in a much better standpoint. (you will direct the keyword related search reusults).

Hi,

The anchor text, link label or link title is the visible, clickable text in a hyperlink.
The words contained in the anchor text can determine the ranking that the page will receive by search engines.
It usually gives the user relevant descriptive or contextual information about the content of the link's destination.
The anchor text also may or may not be related to the actual text of the URL of the link.

Hello,

Anchor text is the hyperlinked terms on a web page - the terms you click on when you click a link and significant anchor text should be applied in links.
