    ***this is keyword targeting***

Ok so I finally decided to take the plunge into adwords, but I am not sure really what or where I want to go with it. I have set up an ad campaign to test for $20 and set a max cpc to .01$. I am pretty sure this will generate no clicks though. What are your experiences with this and should I set up another $20 campaign and see the difference if I go up to say 5 cents cpc. I am new to this, I have pretty much went all organic so far. Someone told me that you should never pay more than 5 cents a click on keyword targeting.

Will I make any money back from advertisements? I really only have about 1 ad per page.

How are you going to learn anything by setting a cpc so low that your ads won't run?
And as for never paying more than 5cents a click - depends on what you're selling and how much profit you make, but that is very low - unrealistically low for the start of a campaign - typically cpc drops after the campaign has a history, such as a decent ctr.

Will you make any back from advertisements? - do you mean arbitrage? No.
It can be done, and people do, but you have to know what you're doing, do a lot of keyword research, know a lot about placing ads to get the best result, and have a site that doesn't look a mfa site to google.

    I agree with Magda,
Very low budget, even for testing,
Please note that everyone are testing in the beginning,
You starting to be profitable after you're changing,
    adding, removing, etc...

    Which niche is it?

The niche is gaming, which has a lot of competition. So that means I should add a higher cpc :p. Ty for your help.

    update:8:07AM CST (about 3hrs after I posted I think)

I went ahead and did my testing just how I had set it up... I think the adwords began only an hour ago though.

    -----------------Hits--Impressions------AVG CPC-------Cost

    $20: 1 cent CPC 0--------0----------------0------------0
    $20: 5 cent CPC 64-----18,487---------.04-------------2.82

So at this rate I will probably end up spreading the word about how I would like. I, for now, can stick with the 5 cent program and be ok. Do you agree?

i think you are bidding on content not on search, you are not going to get the same results
