I'm not sure I understand the limit on the number of channels we're allowed to create with Chitika. Since channels are created on the fly by the ad being served, at what point do you reach your limit of 1000 channels? Is this an all-time count on the number of channels you created? And if so, how do you delete a channel?
Yes, I thought of the '1000 at a time' scenario as well. If indeed that's the way the limit is calculated then it would have to be set within some kind of time frame, let's say most probably 24 hours. That is, they count the number of channels you use during each reports run. The reason I'm inquiring is because I'm thinking of writing a little Javascript that will change my channel ID dynamically according to not only the keyword being used to produce the ad but also the URL the ad is displayed on. I'm thinking that with a large site the possible combinations with this kind of setup could exceed 1000 channels within a specific time frame.
I think the 1000 channel limit will only be a problem for sites that get clicks on 1000 different ads on different channels. How many of us have any where near that?
From what I can see, the ads don't have to be clicked for channel data to show up in the reports. The ads only have to be displayed, i.e., the web page showing the ad is visited by the user. The reports will show the number of impressions for each ad channel regardless of whether the ads were clicked on or not. Hence, if you're using 30 keywords on 100 different web pages, a script that dynamically creates an ad channel by combining the keyword and the URL the ad is displayed on could conceivably come up with 3000 different channels.
