what do you think of my layout, I know it's not pro, but does it look appealing at all? my friends say it's too plain, but I think its almost too crowded, anyways, it's best viewed in IE.

I agree with you, it's not too crowded at all. In terms of the navigation, it's very well structured. I would go for a different background colour, slightly more web-safe.

Pleasant looking page. However, No Doctype and therefor the Markup will not validate. The significance of this is that invalid Markup triggers "Quirks" rendering mode in all current Graphical Browsers. Quirks mode produces inconsistent and sometimes unpredictable rendering -- you really should make your page interoperable in all Browsers by employing valid Markup.

thanks a lot guys, it was just a test site at first, so I didn't bother using proper xhtml, but I ended up getting some hits so I just kept it as my main. I'll try to validate it but it won't be easy :/. anyone else got suggestions?

Umm, it looks like there are a few things missing.

First off, the design isn't centered in IE 6. I would probably fix that.

Also, put the name of the site/logo into the header.

I would also move the advertisement to the bottom of the layout regardless of how much content you have. This will make it stand out more as an advertisement and not part of your content.

These are just my suggestions. I would ignore anyone who says it looks empty. I don't think it does, and simple is the way to go. There is no point in ahving a busy website unless you absolutely have to. It is easier for navigation. Quantity above quality always.
