    Hello

I was looking into LiteSpeed webserver and googled for web servers other than Apache and Litespeed, and found another one , Lighttpd

I have downloaded the tar file , extracted , compiled and installed.

Now, I dont know what to do next. And how to replace Apache with Lighttpd.

I also heard that , we can use both Apache and Lighttpd, So that Lighttpd can decrease the Apache load.

Any help in installation and configuration is appreciated.

Anyone here using Lighttpd in their server?

    The server config is
    CentOs 4.5
    Apache 1.3
PHP 4.4.7 ( I would like to update it to 5.2.4 when Lighttpd is in action)

    Thank you

If you're running cPanel good luck hacking it up to write lighthttpd conf files.

My best advice for you if you're looking for a speed increase is to upgrade to Apache 2.2.6 on cPanel using the new easyapache system. You should also select suPHP for your php configuration. At this point you can also choose to upgrade to PHP 5.2.5 or maybe even more ideal just run PHP 4.4.7 and PHP 5.2.5 together.

Well, Just today , I upgraded again to Apache 2.0.

Before 20 days , I got httpd failure because of the Apache 2+ OpenSSL bug.

But it seems that , the bug is fixed. The server is now running fine.

I hope you're running Apache 2.2 opposed to just Apache 2.0. Along with that make sure you're not running PHP4 as a DSO as it's not thread safe.

As for the openSSL bug unless you specifically made your own openSSL in /opt/openssl or got the update from Redhat (it was released a few days and should show up on CentOS within a week) you're going to continue to get segfaults eventually.
