I have read a few article I found through various google searches and cant decide whether using light text on a dark background is bad web design practice or not. The reason I am creating this thread is I am in the process of creating a website e v o c r e a t i v e . n e t and if you visit the site you will see that on the left column I have a grey background and light blue text.

Just wondering what your opinions are on the subject and whether or not it works on my site.

    Thanks for reading

I think it depends on your target audience and also the amount of information being provided. If it is a lot of text to read then I think it's best to stick to dark text on light background as I hear it can put a strain on the eyes reading light text on a dark background. If your target audience is young people then this won't be as much of a problem compared to if you were targeting an elderly age group.

I checked out the site and didn't see the grey background? I saw the light blue text on a white background but it was still dark enough to read.

Anyway, love your splash page - very creative!

I prefer darker sites with light text. I think they have more character and they are easier to read, IMO,
