I've seen many times that people sell Lifetime listings on web directories. I think the word is too pretentious. Let's be serious, do you think the directory will still be there after 20 years? Think about it... I personally doubt it. Permanent is a more decent word. The listings are permanent as long as the directory will exist. I'm not saying to sell permanent listings and then take them off after 1 year. No.. but this is a business where lots of things can happen in time. I'm not saying that people should not trust these kind of offers but let's be serious... in the end you only get what you pay for. So better offer the people permanent links and try to guarantee them a couple of years instead lifetime... the test of time is a real hard one.
suppose you could read it as being lifetime of the directory and not a human lifetime which is what I assume when looking at purchasing links for my sites anyway.
hmm... I dont think people are thinking about the lifetime of the directory when are purchasing these kind of listings. let's see other opinions too. thanks.
personally I reckon that the top directories probably will be around in 20 years eg BOTW, some of the second tier ones I dunno : )
I think it's a matter of semantics. I agree that "life time" means the lifetime of the directory, however long that may be. I have purchased products with a "life time" guarentee/warentee but never really understood just what that meant. Lifetime of what? To me permanant implies forever. So maybe a permanant, lifetime link. Your link will be permanant (forever) as long as the directory exist (lifetime).
I guess permanent may not be an ideal word either though, ive seen quite a few directories not last even six months, and to me the word permanent means staying or in place for good until otherwise informed. I dont think directories will be around either in 20 years time, i cant even imagine how the internet will be in that time but drastically altered i imagine.
In america a lifetime prison sentence is 20 years (i think) It doesn't mean forever, it means a long time
I think life-time and permanent mean the same thing. Both mean the links will be there as long as the directory is 'live'.
Here lifetime is for directory (not the owner's life) So lifetime = permanent in case of link buying/selling.
well, it may depond upon the admin. he can transfer the lifetime links on a different directory of his!
this issue become hot nowadays. I found submitters include me are reluctant to accept yearly based option. But as someone pointed out, after 5 year or 10 year, who knows what change internet is going on.... I am waiting for good solution.
This is exactly how I see it... If the site is up 4 years, then it has a lifetime of 4 years... this might be a "cheaters way" for the cheap people who get your money for a lifetime link and let the domain die after a year (lifetime 1 year... you bastards!) Just my 2 cents anyways.
