what page are they coming from and why do you not want their traffic?
you can use your .htaccess to block them and send them somewhere else - to a rick rolling page perhaps?
but I'd be trying to find ways to benefit from the traffic

If these are spam, chances that they are not from lifehacker.com. Am not an expert to these stuffs but for example you can fake http request using curl, wget, or an online tool such as https://www.hurl.it/ Check this post for a bit more information: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3104647/how-to-spoof-http-referer/3104768#3104768

To stop these spam, search for "stop referrer spam", there are various methods there. But, be careful because they would probably also block original (not fake) traffic, though.
