Licensing Issues

UK users will probably understand me more than US users of vBulletin.

I am correct in saying that my vBulletin 3.x Licenses was in contract with Jelsoft Enterprises, however, my 4.x Licenses are with vBulletin Solutions, Inc.

Therefore, I am correct in saying that one does not null the other?

And henceforth, I have actually purchased 2 vB 4 licenses, as opposed to upgrade them, not to mention that since vBulletin 4 is a completely new product, you can't upgrade.

PS. From a legal point of view, I don't know who the hell vBulletin Solutions, Inc. are.

I am aware of what Nick said :) We're both fairly active on the vB forums :)

Althought it doesn't answer my questions.

Not with regards to my data.

I know that I have contracts with two people, Jelsoft and vBulletin Solutions, Inc.

vBulletin Solutions are telling me that I upgraded, but I don't really know who they are and how they got my information.

lol its the same company. Internet Brands bought vBulletin/Jelsoft in 2007 and change the name to vBulletin Solutions, Inc.

100% incorrect. vBulletin Solutions and Jelsoft are co-existing, and are NOT the same; nor was the name changed.

    http://www.vbulletin.com/order/license_agreement.php

I'm not exactly sure what the legal ordeal is with having two simultaneous contracts for a single license/product. But basically, it's like this:

    • 3.x (and earlier) and 4.0 are two separate products, each with their own license agreement / contract.
    • No matter what you have done (i.e., upgraded, not upgraded, bought a new license), as long as you use 3.x or download it from the Member's Area, you are bound by its terms. These are the same terms they have always been, as set out by Jelsoft. Note that just a few days ago, Internet Brands made an amendment to these terms, which can be read about, here: vBulletin 3.8 License Agreement Amended. You are presented with these terms when you download 3.8 or earlier, and you signify your agreement to them by running that product.
    • When you purchase a new vB 4 license, or upgrade your 3.8 license to include vB 4, you are subject to new terms, set forth by Internet Brands. These can be found here: http://www.vbulletin.com/order/license_agreement.php. You signify your agreement with these terms by downloading and using vBulletin 4 from the Member's Area.
    • If you notice, you will see that you are presented with the classic terms when downloading 3.8 or older, and the new terms when downloading 4.x.
    • In essence: If you don't use vBulletin 4 on your site, then that particular license is bound by the 3.8 terms.
