This is the clause im questioning in the Vbulletin Licence agreement. http://www.vbulletin.com/order/license_agreement.php Things to question... How do you interpret a board? How do you interpret modification? What counts as the software? How far does it extend. Does changing the $config based upon the HTTP_HOST to display a different config, based upon the subdomain of a URL count as modifying the Software. The board is still the same. It uses the same files. No files are duplicated, only one line of code is added, yet it allows multiple categories. The point is, I have modded my Vbulletin heavily already. I have several forums that all use the same Usergroup, but I have multiple licences for them. After thinking, I have realised, essentially its the same board because the users are the same on both boards. If someone signs up to one forum, they sign up to my WHOLE network. In addition to that I display the forum they want to view based upon the HTTP_HOST. Now really, do I need multiple licences. Things to consider: Interpretation of their terms. What is a board? Do the users make up a board, or do the categories and threads make up a board? Does the fact that one user can view all my forums and log in to each mean that its a single board? Thanks, It doesnt matter for me at the moment because I have multiple licences, but I want to do something where I create around 150 forums, the users will be the same accross all of them.
Why don't you contact Jelsoft directly. You can generally mod the script for your needs but you cannot change the licensing system to use it on more than one domain name. I would supposed that if all the 150 domain names are just forwarded or parked domains pointing to the same board and one domain name, it is okay. From the same license If you are running different themes through different domains then it would probably be viewed as multiple boards and would mean you need one license per board. It probably does not matter if you share members. I think to get around this would be to create sub-forum like what is done here in DP or to use a free bulletin board script like PhpBB and not face the legal hussle. In the end, it is best to contact Jelsoft as they know best and have the final say.
Ive already got the code I need for phpBB I am just wondering about VB. Okay for arguments sake. I am running this from a single domain: The domain is like this: www.myforumdomain.com/forums/sitename I then do it that way.
Like I say, check directly with Jelsoft, they have the final say. You can only have 1 instance of the vbulletin running per license. http://www.vbulletin.com/faqsales.php says
Very disapointed with their response. I dont think he even read my ticket. From what he says I am allowed to do this.
