Has anyone been on a project that wouldn’t take independents because of the liability insurance reqs? Can anyone recommend a good company to work through on these projects that takes care of its consultants – pays well, (actually pays!) good health insurance, 401K, etc.?

Assume you are in the USA though you don't say.

What are the requirements? That you have the insurance or is it the requirements of their insurance?

You won't find many professional contractors that don't have an appropriate Professional Indemnity insurance cover themselves as many clients ask for it and its simply sensible to have it.

Yes USA. Aren't there consulting groups that a consultant can work under, an umbrella? A place consultants could take their projects to for support?
