Letting off a little steam (re:dmoz)

May I let off a little steam regarding the oft mentioned and oft highly praised DMOZ. As far as I can figure this directory exists to drive small web owners crazy. Why do I say this? Well I've tried to add a couple of clean sites to this directory over the last couple of years and I can't get so much as an automated email from it.
Now it is just a directory so I wouldn't normally mind but so often it is quoted as the one you need to get into because apparently Google uses it...blah blah .

If I had my way I'd ban dmoz from the internet and all its alleged human editors to somewhere like...hmmm maybe a desert island.

Like a fool I acutally carried a search box on my site, thinking that the idea of dmoz when I first came across it was noble. No longer, I have woken and now know it to be a black hole for submitters who wait and wait and wait and never hear anything again from dmoz.

dmoz is the biggest time waster around!

grrrrr ***###@@ boo to dmoz down with bad directories and those who just take your details so they can sell your email address to spammers...grrrrr again!!!

I believe that almost everyone here feels as you do.

Except you're nice. You would give the DMOZ editors an island. Many DP'ers would just put them in the middle of the ocean and encourage them to swim.

Welcome to the ignored-by-DMOZ club. :)

You just need to follow the basic DMOZ rule and you wont get upset.

    Submit it and forget it.

I can't complain about DMOZ submitted 9 March 2006 and entered into directory on the 18 March 2006.

God I felt fantastic last night when I saw this.

Well!!! I'll be! It is indeed. Interesting though that my search within dmoz didn't raise this regional location. Also moved to this location recently so the submitted details sat for a long, long time.
OK now I'll go and eat some humble pie and then see if I can get my brother's site up there (was submitted about a year ago).
Thanks for the responses, just goes to show doesn't it.
