Hi, I run a polling site, and am getting ready to let members add pictures to their polls. I was wondering what is the best way to go about it. Should I just let them upload pictures to my site, or should I just let them point to the url of the picture. I would like them to be able to upload, but not sure how to deal with copyright info. Any suggestions...experience.
Limit your audience in what sense? URL redirecting and linking will save B/W and give posting freedom? Of course, both options have their pros and cons.
I think I would have to agree with PinoyIto because not everyone has a webserver or a place they keep their pictures online. My concern with uploading to my site is what if they upload copyright material that is not theirs. I know google is deleting c.r. stuff from their newly purchased YouTube. I guess that would be a big con. Maybe I will make them type in url.
camp : There are lots of free image hosting websites out there that people even use for their websites. And some even pay you to upload their images. Not all will allow hotlinking but practically, thumbnail linking is a better way to share images as we all know not everyone may be interested in what you have to say. If you allowed people to upload images on your server, then you would worry about copyright issues since you're the owner of the forum and gave that freedom to your users. As I've said, both have it's pros and cons.
Thanks! I think I will let them just submit url like you suggest. Can always change later. Lot easier for me I know.
