Letting guests post their messages as anonymous

I've just decided to let visitors post their messages. Their messages are displayed, but they are all reviewed and activated if they are not spam.

Will this lure spammers more than good citizens to the forum at my social and business network

Will captcha help in fighting spammers? I thought of automatically deleting any URL in messages, but that won't be fair for good citizens .

    Thanks

You need a system such as captcha to make it difficult for scripts or any automatic spamming methods to be used. You need a way to determine real visitors from fake visitors. You say that it automatically deleted urls from the messages but the messages will still get posted by automatic scripts, no?

Depends on whether you're talking blogs or forums here.

A lot of spam bots slip through the anti-spam measures of certain forum software very easily and are a nightmare to combat unless you have a lot of hacks in place to block them out - however most of those measures are applied to the registration process - so making registration optional could open the floodgates.

On the other hand, spam isn't as big an issue on many blog scripts (though still a big one); and I believe its easier to prevent. Plus, some scripts give you the benefit of being able to edit the usernames of your anonymous posters; which you could use to your advantage for SEO purposes
