Let's see if outside flyers work.

Well, I'm in college and make little money, but I'm allowed to post flyers at my college for free.

And what do you think I'm going to do? Yup I'm going to be posting these babies around the college about my gadget blog. Now, I'll reply to see if I get any jump in visitors. Since most of my visitors are from the US (and I'm in Canada) I could tell instantly.

I'm thinking that young people are probably the most connected electronically and know the most in terms of technology. i.e. my target audience.

Are you going to be posting them or running around the halls throwing flyers at peoples faces?

skinny, i have tried with posting POSTERS instead of flyers and it worked well. A3 sized posters. gotta spend a bit, but that's all part of offline advertising. :)

Yea I guess it is a poster but on a normal sized paper. The college is Humber College of Applied Tech.

Problem is there is probably gonna be a strike tomorrow up here so I'm not sure when I'll be able to post them up.

    Will keep everyone updated.

It would be hard to track the campain since you will not be able to get a accurate number of visitors. Please let me know how you are going to determine that this form of advertising is going to be benificial.

;) Hi Skinny ... just be careful m8!! I had an off-line business some time back and I used to really get carried away posting flyers ... my favorite place in my town was supermarket and shopping mall car parks (stuck the flyer under car wipers)... It was so easy and so direct introducing up-to the minute offers I really got very good responses with R.O.I ... until one day a town official phoned me to warn me if I didn’t go back and recover all my flyers they would take me to court and have me fined for creating litter in public areas ... D’oooH!!

Keep us posted I'm very interested how this works out for you as well. I've tried similar tactics in the past but had little success.

Well like I said, the visitors would be from Canada, and I get few visitors from there (mostly US).

Now I classified the levels of beneficiality to me and here they are from least to most important.

    5. Actually visits the site.
    4. Checks out a few pages of the site.
    3. Comments
    2. Suscribes to newsletter
    1. Becomes a regular visitor of the site.

As mentioned they are on strike now, so I gotta wait ;)

I've been considering this for my site as well. I live in a college town and I think college students in particular benefit from my site. I've also considered posting a classified ad in the local paper to see if that works as well.

I did something sorta like this, except it was business cards. I had 1000 cards made with just the web url, and nothing else. No name, phone number, nothing except the url. I then carry these with me everywhere and just place them next to pay phones, bathrooms, on shelfs on the stores, on cars, etc.

Although I have not seen any huge spikes yet, I still toss'em around. I was planning on passing out alot of them at one of our local parades, but had to ride on one of my kid's floats and toss the candy thing.

The cards were very inexpensive, just black lettering on a white card.
